Malachite from Zaire

MALACHITE

MALACHITE is a copper carbonate that is mined for its copper content; but it is the gemstone variety, with its rich swirls of emerald green that has captured the admiration of gem collectors everywhere. Malachite beads have been discovered in Egyptian tombs from 4,000 BC. Malachite is found in the USA and Russia, but the very finest material comes from Congo in central Africa, which is where all Mineral World stones are brought. Although not very hard (4), it takes an excellent polish, that enhances its unique colouring.
